The below NFT is an Anagram, which means it would make sense even if you read it up-side down! This is in contrast to this article, which makes sense only when you read it from the next point.
A new online map that’s more updated than Google Maps that pays people to update it, a hotspot network by the people, for the people, free NFT collectibles, and saving the trees of the world. Four very random operations, and one surprisingly random link, they all run on Solana!
Now to talk about what Solana is would be rudimentary for this article so, here are some amazing articles on what exactly it is and why it’s the go to blockchain platform for budding dApp developers and first-timers to get into the world of Web3 (like myself 😅). You could find those here, here and here!
Now that we’re on the same page (mostly, I may have skimmed through a few of those links), what do those random clickbait-y things I mentioned in the beginning have to do with a decentralized cool blockchain network? The simplest answer would be that they all use Solana one way or the other to carry out their operations.
Hivemapper, a project by Ariel Seidman, uses the community driven nature of Solana along with something called state compression (has something to do with a tree, pine or fir or Merkle or something). Helium Networks uses Solana to create decentralized hotspots for IoT devices while acting as a prime example of a DePIN project. DRiP uses Solana to make free collectibles, and GainForest lets people make donations that actually count towards saving the environment, while showing what exact change your donations have made.
With these in mind, here are a few NFTs I think show artistically enough (for an NFT) what the limits of Solana for Web3 are (trick question, there are none!)
1. Constrast
Solana’s simply different from the rest. It’s crazy fast (wayyyy faster than the competition), crazy cheap (again wayyy cheaper) and uses Proof of History and State Compression to make the process of making a dApp way easier and more accessible for developers. The contrast is blindingly obvious.
2. Speeeed
Proof of History allows for a faster process of verification of data on blockchain, avoiding complex computational puzzles needed in networks like Ethereum.
3. Aesthetic
I mean, just check out their website here, Solana does cool things and looks cool while doing it.
4. The Dessert Set
Because that’s what Solana is all about, creating opportunities and allowing solutions in regions where finding a way to solve a problem may be homologous to finding water in a desert. They have a detailed and comprehensive guide on how one could get started with coding on Solana, and tons of documentation on various pet projects on Solana provide us with enough resources to start working on any project we’d like to, and solve any problem we want to!
5. The Header
Because at the end of the day, Solana is about taking a power that is currently held by a few powerful entities in the web, and passing over this power to common people and developers worldwide to solve problems with each other and decentralize properties on the web. If Web3 is a developing desert, then Solana is the buzzing oasis from which we could expect to see the largest developments that reshape the way Web3 moves forward.
